St. Paul Miki

A Japanese Jesuit seminarian and one of the Twenty-Six Martyrs crucified in Nagasaki during the persecution of Christians.

Biography

St. Paul Miki was a Japanese Jesuit scholastic from a wealthy family who was one of the Twenty-Six Martyrs of Japan. He was arrested during the persecution under Toyotomi Hideyoshi and forced to march 600 miles to Nagasaki in winter. He preached his most powerful sermon from the cross before being killed by lance thrusts.
