Biography
St. John I was elected pope in 523 and is remembered for his defense of Catholic doctrine during a time of great theological turmoil. He was imprisoned by the Ostrogoth king Theodoric for opposing his Arian views, leading to his death due to harsh treatment. His legacy is one of steadfast faith and commitment to the truth of the Gospel.
