St. Gregory the Illuminator

The patron saint of Armenia who converted King Tiridates III, making Armenia the first nation to adopt Christianity as a state religion in 301 AD.

Biography

St. Gregory the Illuminator was imprisoned in a pit for 13 years by King Tiridates III of Armenia for refusing to worship pagan gods. When the king fell gravely ill, Gregory was released to pray for him. The king was healed and converted, making Armenia the first Christian nation in 301 AD.
