Biography
Born Isabel Flores de Oliva in Lima, Peru, Rose adopted the name of a rose to express her beauty of spirit. Throughout her life, she dedicated herself to prayer, fasting, and helping those in need, often taking extreme measures of penance. Her dedication to God and the marginalized made her a beloved figure, and she was canonized in 1671, becoming the first saint of the Americas.
