A bishop and missionary, St. Patrick played a crucial role in converting the Irish to Christianity during the 5th century. According to legend, he drove snakes out of Ireland, symbolizing the eradication of paganism. His teachings and use of everyday symbols made the Christian faith more accessible to the Irish people.
