St. Kateri Tekakwitha was born in 1656 in what is now New York, growing up amidst the Mohawk people. After the death of her family members from smallpox, she embraced Christianity, dedicating herself to a life of faith and service. Known for her unwavering commitment to her beliefs, she became a symbol of unity between Native American spirituality and Christian faith.
