Biography
St. Damien de Veuster was a Belgian priest who volunteered to serve the isolated leper colony on the island of Molokai in Hawaii. He built houses, hospitals, and churches, and personally cared for the sick. After 16 years of service, he contracted leprosy himself and died among the people he loved.
