St. Basil the Elder

The elder Basil's influence on his famous son is recognized as part of a spiritual lineage, and his feast day of April 26 honors him as an ancestor of sanctity as well as a bishop in his own right. Beyond this father-son relationship, much of the rest of his biography is uncertain, and traditions about other family connections should be regarded with caution rather than as established fact.
