St. Savva of Serbia

The first Archbishop of the autocephalous Serbian Orthodox Church and national hero of Serbia.

Biography

Savva was a prince who secretly fled to Mount Athos to become a monk. He later returned to Serbia to establish its independent church, founded schools and hospitals, and negotiated peace between his brothers. He is considered the father of Serbian culture and identity.
