Biography

St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara was an Indian priest of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church who founded the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate, the first indigenous religious congregation for men in India. He established schools in every parish, including for girls and lower castes, and pioneered a Sanskrit school for interfaith dialogue.
