Biography

Dr. Valentin Voyno-Yasenetsky was a world-class surgeon who wrote 'Essays on Purulent Surgery', a textbook used for decades. He became a priest and then a bishop during the height of Stalin's purges. He spent 11 years in various prisons and exiles, often performing surgeries with limited tools to save the lives of fellow prisoners.
