Biography
Susanna U Sur-im became Catholic after marrying into a Catholic family. She survived an earlier arrest in 1828, but the injuries from torture continued to trouble her. Following her husband's death, she moved to Seoul and supported herself through domestic work in several households.
Susanna formed friendships with other Catholic women and maintained a life of prayer and service. Arrested at Charles Hyon's house in July 1846, she endured more than two months in prison without renouncing her faith. She died during the September persecution. The bishops' biography leaves the precise method of death uncertain between beating and strangulation.
