Biography
Sebastian Nam I-gwan came from a family affected by the 1801 persecution, when his father died in exile. Sebastian himself spent years in exile and received baptism as an adult. After his release he worked with Paul Chong Ha-sang's group to help the Chinese priest Pacificus Yu enter Korea.
He assisted the priest and offered him lodging. During the 1839 persecution Sebastian was arrested outside Seoul and refused demands to abandon his religion. He was executed in September. His wife Barbara Cho Chung-i was also martyred, but their individual biographies and separate executions are not combined into a single directory identity.
