Biography
Pierre Henri Dorie was raised in a French farming family and entered seminary with encouragement from his parish priest. His desire for foreign missionary work met opposition from those close to him, but he eventually joined the Paris Foreign Missions Society. Ordained in 1864, he was assigned to Korea.
Dorie arrived in 1865 with other young missionaries and studied Korean while serving near Yongin. His ministry lasted less than a year before arrest in February 1866. Imprisoned with Bishop Berneux and fellow priests, he endured torture and was executed at Saenamteo in March. The Korean bishops preserve his individual biography among the canonized martyrs.
