Biography
Pierre Aumaître was raised in a French family supported by farming and shoemaking. His determination to study Latin overcame initial doubts about his suitability for seminary. After joining the Paris Foreign Missions Society and being ordained, he reached Korea in 1863 and learned the language before serving in the Naepo region.
When persecution began, Aumaître went to Bishop Daveluy's village and surrendered there. He was interrogated in Seoul with Daveluy and Martin Luc Huin, then transferred to Galmaemot for execution in March 1866. The bishops' biography remembers his kindness toward local Catholics; unverified claims about the condition of his body are not repeated here as facts.
