Biography
Peter Yu Tae-chol was a young Korean Catholic whose father, Augustine Yu Chin-gil, was also martyred. His mother opposed his religious practice. The bishops' account describes Peter trying to respect his family while holding to his faith, and later being imprisoned during the persecution of 1839.
Repeated interrogation and violence did not make him renounce Catholicism. He encouraged fellow prisoners even while seriously injured. He was ultimately strangled in prison while still an adolescent. His biography is an account of persecution suffered by a child; its courage should never be used to excuse the abuse or encourage anyone to seek danger.
