Biography

Peter Trương Văn Thi was born at Kẻ Sở in a poor Catholic family. As a child he tended cattle for the community of the Lovers of the Holy Cross. A religious superior noticed him and arranged his entry into a priest's household. He later studied at seminary, worked as a catechist, and returned for theology before ordination in 1806.

Peter's longest pastoral assignment was at Sông Chảy in Phú Thọ, where he served for many years. His nephew Peter Đường also entered church service and became a martyr. Peter Thi was ultimately imprisoned and beheaded in 1839 after remaining faithful to Christianity. He was canonized in 1988.
