Biography

Peter Đoàn Văn Vân came from Kẻ Bói, also called Kẻ Cói, in Hà Nam. He entered a priest's household as a child and later studied at seminary. As a catechist at Bầu Nọ, he managed parish property, assisted poor people, visited the sick, and helped reconcile disputes. His parish priest trusted him with practical responsibilities while traveling to administer the sacraments.

During interrogation Peter insisted that he had never been ordained, even when officials urged him to call himself a priest. He also refused to abandon Christianity. Months of imprisonment involved hunger and hardship, while Catholics raised money for his support. He was beheaded in 1857. He was canonized in 1988.
