Biography
Peter Chong Won-ji came from a Catholic family and lost both parents before the persecution of 1866. His father had been martyred. Peter moved to a village near Jeonju, married, and rented accommodation in the household of Peter Cho Hwa-so.
He fled to a mountain when police entered the village but was captured the following morning. After briefly denying that he was Catholic, he repented with encouragement from Peter Cho. He then maintained his faith under interrogation, identifying his father as the person who had taught him. He was executed at Jeonju in December, remembered as a distinct young lay martyr.
