Biography
Paul Lê Bảo Tịnh was a Vietnamese priest associated with Vĩnh Trị. His work brought him into close contact with the bishops and missionaries serving northern Vietnam. Before his ordination, he accompanied Bishop Retord on a journey toward Manila but was sent back from Macau to guide a newly arriving missionary and bring church supplies home. His life thus included practical service as well as religious formation.
In 1857 authorities surrounded Vĩnh Trị and arrested Paul while other clergy sought refuge. News of his execution deeply affected Bishop Retord, who arranged for his body to be recovered and buried at the church. He was canonized in 1988.
