Biography
Paola Frassinetti took on household responsibilities in Genoa after her mother's death. Ill health later brought her to her priest brother's parish at Quinto, where conversations with local girls helped reveal a vocation to education. In 1834 she and six companions began a religious community and opened a school for poor children.
The community adopted the work of Saint Dorothy and became the Sisters of Saint Dorothy. Its educational ministry developed despite poverty and practical obstacles, extending from Genoa to Rome and beyond. Paola's approach linked religious formation with access to schooling for those least able to afford it. She was canonized in 1984.
