Biography
Nunzio Sulprizio was born in Pescosansonesco and lost his father, mother and grandmother during childhood. His grandmother had encouraged his education and Eucharistic devotion. After her death, a blacksmith uncle took him into his household, ended his schooling and subjected him to heavy work beyond his age and fragile physical condition.
A serious disease in his leg increasingly restricted his life. The institutional account emphasizes his perseverance in prayer and his concern for other people undergoing suffering. Despite poverty and weakness, he consoled companions and sought ways to help those in need. His recognition concerns a young lay person whose life ended in 1836. Francis canonized Nunzio Sulprizio in 2018.
