Biography
Martha Kim Song-im encountered Catholicism through someone sharing her lodging in Hanyang. After a difficult period of family life and bereavement, fellow Catholics helped her, and she worked in their homes in return. Their support and example helped her deepen her own religious practice.
During the 1839 persecution she and three other women presented themselves to the authorities as Catholics. They remained firm during interrogation and torture. Martha was executed in Seoul in July 1839. The bishops' account preserves her personal story within the canonized martyrs; its typographical problems are not used to supply precise birth or beatification dates here.
