Biography
St. Marianne Cope was a German-born American Franciscan sister who arrived in Hawaii in 1883 to manage hospitals and schools. After St. Damien's death, she took over the care of the Molokai leper settlement, serving for over 30 years. Remarkably, she never contracted the disease despite constant close contact.
