Biography
Magdalene Pak Pong-son was a married woman with two daughters who returned to Seoul after her husband died. Her stepmother, Cecilia Kim, encouraged her to become Catholic in 1834. Magdalene then lived in a relative's household that also sheltered a number of poor people.
She became known for caring for these neighbors. After her arrest during the persecution, she repeatedly refused to renounce her faith or accuse fellow Catholics, despite torture. Magdalene was executed in Seoul in September 1839. Her individual biography in the bishops' collection preserves both her charitable work and her final imprisonment.
