Biography
Luke Vũ Bá Loan came from Trác Bút in Hà Nam and became a priest during the Tây Sơn period. His assignments included Nam Xang and Sơn Miêng, followed by service as an assistant at Kẻ Vồi. When that parish was divided, he was entrusted with the new community of Kẻ Sổ, where he remained until his arrest.
Luke's long ministry made him one of the oldest people among the Vietnamese martyrs. He took particular care in celebrating Mass and prayer, refusing to hurry worship simply for convenience. Persecution eventually brought his pastoral service to an end in captivity and beheading in 1840. He was canonized in 1988.
