Biography
Luigi Scrosoppi became a priest in Udine in 1827. Famine, disease, and war had left many girls without reliable support. Working with other priests and women teachers, he helped provide a home and an education that included reading, writing, arithmetic, and practical skills. He spent his own resources and sought further help to sustain the work.
The women committed to this ministry formed the Sisters of Providence. In 1846 Luigi also entered the Oratory of Saint Philip Neri. His approach emphasized affectionate care alongside instruction, recognizing that shelter alone did not meet a child's needs. His canonization in 2001 honors a life in which prayer, community, and practical education remained closely connected.
