Biography
Lucia Kim lived among Catholic households after a marriage in which her religious practice was opposed. She helped with housework, cared for children and sick people, and spoke to others about the faith despite having little formal education. The Korean bishops' biography remembers her as an older woman whose service continued into imprisonment.
Lucia refused demands to deny God or identify the Catholics who had supported her. After a severe beating, she became too ill to rise and died in prison around late August or early September 1839. She is a different person from the younger Lucia Kim executed in July of that year.
