Biography
Joseph Pignatelli was a Spanish-born Jesuit priest who helped his companions survive expulsion and the suppression of their order. Before exile, his work included teaching boys and visiting prisoners. When the Jesuits were expelled from Spain in 1767, he accompanied them instead of seeking an exemption through his noble family.
He maintained contact with dispersed former Jesuits and later joined a community connected with the surviving Society in Russia. He renewed his vows in 1797 and helped train new members. He died in 1811 before the order's worldwide restoration. The linked source disagrees internally about his death month; only the year is retained here.
