Biography

Joseph Nguyễn Văn Lựu came from Cái Nhum in Vĩnh Long. Family difficulties led his household to move first to Bò Ót and later to Mặc Bắc, where he helped his father cultivate land and establish the community. He married Martha Thế and raised children. His work included farming, sharing food with neighbors, and assisting others with their fields.

As a Catholic community leader, Joseph visited sick people and encouraged prayer in his household. When persecution forced the church building to close, his home became a place for worship and a refuge for visiting priests. He continued these responsibilities despite the danger and eventually died in captivity. He was canonized in 1988.
