Biography
Joseph Nguyễn Duy Tuân came from Trần Xá in the parish of Cao Xá, Hưng Yên. His Catholic family encouraged religious formation, and he studied in the minor and major seminaries before ordination. He later joined the Dominican Order, making his profession in 1858. His superiors entrusted him with the communities of Ngọc Đồng, Tiên Chu, and Cao Xá during a dangerous period for Catholic ministry.
Joseph was hiding at Ngọc Đồng when an elderly sick woman asked for a priest. The son sent to seek him instead reported him to officials. Arrested and taken to Hưng Yên, Joseph refused demands to abandon Christianity despite interrogation and torture. He was beheaded and later canonized by John Paul II in 1988.
