Biography
Joseph Han Chae-kwon had served as a catechist before settling near Jeonju, where he lived as an ordinary Catholic. His honest and gentle conduct won respect beyond the Church. Arrested in December 1866, he faced pressure from relatives as well as from government officials.
His father sought his release through appeals and payments, but Joseph would not renounce his faith. After imprisonment and torture, he was executed at Jeonju later that month. The bishops' account notes that some sources use the baptismal name Peter while most use Joseph. That variation is recorded as an alias for one individual, not as an additional saint.
