Biography
Josep Manyanet y Vives worked to support his education before being ordained in 1859. After diocesan service in Urgell, he founded the Sons of the Holy Family in 1864 and the Missionary Daughters of the Holy Family of Nazareth in 1874. Both foundations emphasized the Christian formation of families through education and ministry.
He wrote for families and religious communities, established schools, and promoted devotion to the Holy Family, including the idea of a church dedicated to it in Barcelona. His contribution was spiritual and educational rather than architectural. The Vatican biography's opening sentence contains a birth-year typo; its heading gives 1833–1901. The canonization index records his recognition as a saint in 2004.
