Biography
John Yi Yun-il was a Korean farmer, husband and father from a Catholic family that had produced catechists. He settled in the Mungyeong area and tried to sustain its religious traditions. Police arrested him and members of his household during the persecution of 1866 and confiscated their possessions.
Transferred through several prisons, John acknowledged his own Catholic faith without identifying additional believers. He encouraged companions and urged his children to remain faithful. He was executed near Daegu in January 1867. The bishops' account contains conflicting age and birth-year information; this summary preserves the documented sequence without calculating a replacement birth date.
