Biography

John Đạt came from Khê Câu in the parish of Trung Lương, also called Đồng Chuối. His father died while he was young, leaving his mother to support two children. John helped with the household work and repeatedly asked permission to enter religious formation. His mother eventually agreed, and he joined a priest's household before studying at seminary and working as a catechist.

John became a priest in 1798 and was sent to serve Hảo Nho. His ministry included care for poor and sick Catholics during a period of persecution. That same year he was arrested and refused to abandon Christianity. His priestly service was brief, ending in execution in 1798. John Paul II canonized him with the Vietnamese martyrs in 1988.
