Biography
Hyacintha Marescotti was a Franciscan religious in Viterbo, Italy. Her religious life did not begin with an easy acceptance of convent discipline. The Catholic account describes years of attachment to comfort and social status before illness brought her to reconsider the way she was living.
Her later life joined penitence with concrete care for others. She organized fraternities that assisted elderly people and supported Eucharistic adoration. Her story is therefore more than an account of private austerity: a changed attitude led to organized service. Nominis records her January 30 commemoration and identifies her as a saint of the Franciscan Third Order Regular.
