Biography
Giustino Maria Russolillo grew up in Pianura near Naples and received important early instruction from two aunts who were teachers. He entered seminary as a boy and was ordained in 1913. He continued teaching catechism and sought to help young people discern a vocation to priesthood or religious life.
An initial attempt at communal formation was halted by the bishop. Military medical service during the First World War interrupted his parish activities but allowed him to remain in correspondence with the young men he guided. He later founded the Society of Divine Vocations, giving lasting form to his concern for vocational discernment and formation. Francis canonized Giustino Maria Russolillo in 2022.
