Biography
Francis Anthony Fasani grew up in Lucera and joined the Conventual Franciscans, taking religious names that expressed his commitment to Francis and Anthony. He studied philosophy and theology and was ordained at Assisi in 1705. Returning to Lucera, he spent the remainder of his life in teaching and pastoral ministry.
Within his order he formed novices, taught philosophy and held leadership responsibilities. His theological studies and spiritual guidance earned him the local title Padre Maestro. The Vatican's individual biography situates these responsibilities within a sustained religious life rather than a brief public achievement. John Paul II canonized him in 1986.
