Biography
Edmund Arrowsmith was born Brian Arrowsmith in Lancashire and took the name Edmund at confirmation while studying at the English College in Douai. After his ordination, he returned to Lancashire in 1613. He spent the following years ministering to Catholics under laws restricting their religious practice.
He joined the Jesuits in 1623 while continuing his pastoral work. An earlier imprisonment ended in release, but a later arrest led to conviction for being a priest. He was executed in 1628. Brian and Edmund refer to this same individual and are indexed here as alternate names rather than separate saints.
