Biography

Dominic Vũ Đình Tước was born at Trung Lao in Nam Định and began preparation for religious service as a boy. He studied in the minor seminary and then theology before becoming a priest. Seeking a further commitment to community life, he entered the Dominican Order and made his profession in 1812. His ministry continued into the period of persecution under Minh Mạng.

After Dominic was captured, local Catholics tried to rescue him. The captors retreated while taking him along, and a violent confrontation followed. One man struck Dominic's head with a sword. Believers reached him and attempted to help, but he died from the wound in 1839. He was canonized in 1988.
