Biography

Dominic Phạm Trọng Khảm was a married Catholic leader of Quần Cống in Nam Định. His family was prosperous and known for generosity. Villagers entrusted him with responsibilities in both civil affairs and the local Christian community. During the persecution he sheltered priests, including Bishop Melchior García Sampedro, and continued guiding the religious life of his household.

After his arrest, Dominic prayed with fellow prisoners and helped organize their communal recitation of the rosary. His son Luke Phạm Trọng Thìn and Joseph Phạm Trọng Tả shared his imprisonment. All three refused demands to renounce Christianity and were sentenced to strangulation. Dominic died with these companions in 1859; John Paul II canonized him in 1988.
