Biography

Dominic Nguyễn Văn Xuyên came from Hương Hợp in Thái Bình, where his parents farmed. They arranged his education and entrusted him to Bishop Ignacio Delgado for religious formation. Ordained in 1819, he made profession in the Dominican Order the following year. He set aside food and money for poor people before meeting his own needs.

Dominic served at Phạm Pháo and Kẻ Miêu while moving between refuges during persecution. He continued helping poor people even in captivity. His death sentence was carried out with Father Thomas Đinh Viết Dụ at Bảy Mẫu in Nam Định in 1839. Catholics later transferred his remains to Lục Thủy Hạ. He was canonized in 1988.
