Biography
Cecilia Yu So-sa became Catholic through her husband, Augustine Chong Yak-jong. After his martyrdom in 1801, she and her children faced confiscation of their property and a difficult period living with relatives. Her son Paul Chong Ha-sang later helped bring missionaries into Korea.
In old age Cecilia devoted much of her time to prayer and sometimes went without food to help others. Arrested during the 1839 persecution, she refused to abandon her faith or identify fellow Catholics. She died in prison that November after severe beatings. Her story is distinct from those of her martyred children Paul and Elizabeth.
