Biography
Catherine Yi was a Korean Catholic mother who brought her husband to the faith and raised her children in difficult financial circumstances. Her daughter Magdalene Cho supported the household through sewing and weaving, then developed her own life of service. Mother and daughter eventually moved to Seoul, where Bishop Imbert helped them find accommodation.
Both were arrested during the persecution of 1839 and refused to abandon their Catholic faith. Severe beatings were followed by illness in prison, where they died within days of one another. The bishops' account places their deaths around late September or early October; it does not establish an exact day.
