Biography
Catherine Chong Chor-yom was the daughter of a servant and experienced severe violence when she refused participation in a ceremony incompatible with her Catholic faith. The resulting injuries restricted her ability to work. She eventually sought refuge in a Catholic household in Seoul and later served Andrew Kim Tae-gon's household.
Arrested with Susanna U, Teresa Kim Im-i and Agatha Yi Kan-nan in July 1846, Catherine refused to abandon her religion despite further mistreatment. She died in September. The source gives differing accounts of when she was baptized and does not establish the precise method of death; neither uncertainty is resolved by guesswork here.
