Biography
St. Boris I was the ruler of Bulgaria who converted to Christianity around 864 and established it as the state religion. He navigated complex diplomatic relationships between Rome and Constantinople to secure autonomy for the Bulgarian Church. He eventually abdicated and retired to a monastery, but emerged briefly to prevent his son from restoring paganism.
