Biography

Benedetta Cambiagio married Giovanni Frassinello in 1816. Together they later chose a chaste life and cared for her seriously ill sister. Their discernment included attempts at religious life, but Benedetta's illness interrupted her time with the Ursulines. She subsequently devoted herself to the education of girls in need.

With the bishop's support, Giovanni helped her in this work after leaving his own novitiate. The ministry developed into the Benedictine Sisters of Providence. Her path should not be flattened into a conventional convent biography: marriage, shared service, illness, and changing responsibilities all mattered. The Vatican records her canonization in 2002.
