Biography

Bartholomew Chong Mun-ho had served as a regional governor before his baptism. After becoming Catholic he left public office and taught catechism, earning respect among Catholics and others. He was living in the Jeolla region when renewed persecution reached his community in 1866.

Arrested with fellow believers, Bartholomew experienced temptation to renounce his religion. Encouragement from companions, especially Peter Cho Hwa-so, helped him remain faithful. He prayed through interrogation and was executed at Jeonju in December. His biography records dependence on others' support, showing a community of perseverance rather than an isolated figure unaffected by fear.
