Biography
Barbara Kwon Hui became Catholic with her husband, Augustine Yi Kwang-hon. Their home offered lodging to Bishop Imbert and other missionaries and provided a place where Catholics could attend Mass and learn their faith. This hospitality exposed the household to danger during persecution.
Barbara was arrested in 1839 alongside members of her family. She endured torture and the distress of seeing her daughter Agatha suffer in custody. Barbara was executed in Seoul that September. Her husband, daughter and brother-in-law John Baptist Yi Kwang-nyol were also martyrs, but her individual biography records her own service and imprisonment.
