Biography
Barbara Choe Yong-i was the daughter of Magdalene Son So-byog and Peter Choe Chang-hub. When considering marriage, she valued a husband's Catholic faith over wealth or rank. She married Charles Cho and became a mother; the couple encouraged one another in their religious life.
After her arrest, Barbara initially brought her infant son into prison, then entrusted him to relatives because of its harsh conditions. She refused to identify fellow Catholics or surrender her faith. She was executed at Tangkogae in February 1840, shortly after her mother's death. Her family connections are recorded without counting her as an alias of either parent.
